The IS-7 is a Tier X Soviet Heavy Tank.
In-Game Play
Its armor features one of the heaviest armor in the game, only to be beaten by tanks like the Type 5 Heavy and Maus. The distinctive pike nose features 150mm of armor angled at 60 degrees, making the effective armor reach out at nearly 300mm! The LFP is weaker, but still well-armored. Angled at 45 degrees, it has an effective armor value of 240mm, still enough to trigger bounces, especially at range. The turret, however, is a different story; Featuring well-streamlined armor well over 300mm, allowing hull-down tactics, but the poor depression angles of -6 degrees will be a disadvantage in hilly terrain. The sides, like all the other, IS tanks are robust, allowing effective side scraping.
Talking firepower, this tank features a scary 130mm gun, with good penetration (250mm with standard AP), excellent alpha damage, and decent accuracy. The DPM is slightly below average due to the slow RoF this gun comes with, but acceptable otherwise. The HE shells are very powerful and deal 630 alpha average, which is great for lightly skinned targets like light tanks and SPGs.
The mobility this tank features is unusually fast, especially for its weight and size. Perfect for ramming targets!
Other stats are quite good also. Great Radio Range and great view range (400m).
Overall, this tank is a great all-rounder heavy tank. This tank does best in urban environments and can lead assaults with confidence. The amount of armor and firepower you can bring with your mobility will quite dictate how the battle situation will go.
Historical Background
The IS-7 heavy tank was designed in Leningrad in 1945 and it was developed in 1948. IS-7 weights around 65 to 70 tons and it's the heaviest member of the IS family. It features a 130mm autoloading naval gun and multiple machine guns. 6 prototypes were made; some were variants. Its also known as Object 260.
Object 261 is supposed to be a self-propelled gun variant of the tank, featuring the in-game 180mm gun.
Object 262 is another self-propelled gun, featuring a 155mm gun in an enclosed fighting compartment.
Object 263 is a tank destroyer variant, featuring another 130mm gun on the rear with an open-topped fighting compartment.
Despite the project's potential in a heavy breakthrough tank, the T-10 was deemed a much cheaper tank, and work on the IS-7 ceased on February 18th, 1949.
